Question 1

What is Shagun Direct?

Accepted Answer

Shagun Direct is a digital gifting platform. Couples create an event page and share it by link or QR code, and guests use it to send a gift of shagun with a greeting message, and an optional wishing card or video greeting.

Question 2

Who can use it?

Accepted Answer

Anyone aged 18 or over. Guests can send a gift straight from the couple's link, with no account and nothing to set up. Guests can be anywhere in the world. Couples (hosts) must be based in the UK. Only the couple needs a Stripe connected account, which they set up when they sign up. It needs a UK bank account and Stripe's identity check, and it is where gifts are paid out from, in pounds sterling (GBP).

Question 3

Does Shagun Direct hold my money?

Accepted Answer

No. Shagun Direct is a technology platform, not a bank or payment provider. Payments are processed by Stripe, and gifts are held in the couple's own Stripe account until they are paid out to the couple's bank account.

Question 4

Do I need an account to send a gift?

Accepted Answer

No. Open the couple's link or scan their QR code, enter your details and gift amount, add a message, and pay by card through Stripe's secure form.

Question 5

Which cards can I pay with?

Accepted Answer

You can pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express, including debit and credit cards, from anywhere in the world. Gifts are in pounds sterling (GBP). If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the amount and may add its own fee.

Question 6

What will the couple see?

Accepted Answer

The couple sees your name, greeting message, gift amount and any wishing card or video greeting. They cannot see your email address or mobile number.

Question 7

Can I add a card or a video?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A greeting text message is free. You can also add one paid extra per gift: a digital wishing card for £1.00, or a video greeting from your device (up to 25MB) for £2.00.

Question 8

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Email info@shagundirect.com within 48 hours of paying, with your name, the couple's name, the amount and the date. A refund is only possible if the gift has not yet been paid out to the couple. The gift amount is refunded; fees are refunded in full only for duplicate payments, technical errors or unauthorised payments.

Question 9

How do I share my invite?

Accepted Answer

Every couple gets a personal invite link and a downloadable QR invitation card. Add it to printed invitations, wedding websites or your WhatsApp groups.

Question 10

Can couples outside the UK use Shagun Direct?

Accepted Answer

Not at the moment. Couples must be based in the UK, with a UK bank account. Every gift is paid out to that account in pounds sterling (GBP). Your guests, though, can send shagun from anywhere in the world.

Question 11

When do I receive the money?

Accepted Answer

Stripe pays gifts out to your bank account automatically, normally within 7 days, with no payout fee. You can also request an early payout (about 2 days, no charges) or an instant payout (1% fee).

Question 12

How long does my account stay open?

Accepted Answer

A couple account is deactivated 60 days after it was created, or later if a payout was made in the final week. We will remind you beforehand, and you can ask us to extend it. Please download your transaction history, messages and videos before then.

Question 13

How long are video greetings kept?

Accepted Answer

Video greetings are stored for up to 60 days and then deleted automatically, so download any you want to keep.

Question 14

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Couples pay nothing and receive the full gift amount. The guest pays a 3% platform fee on the gift, plus Stripe's card processing fee (1.5% + 20p for standard UK cards). Every fee is shown before the guest presses Pay.

Question 15

Is my card information safe?

Accepted Answer

Card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure card form and go only to Stripe. Shagun Direct never receives or stores card numbers, CVC codes or expiry dates.

Question 16

Will you sell my data?

Accepted Answer

Never. We only share information where it is needed to run the platform, such as with Stripe to process payments, or where the law requires it. Our Privacy Notice explains the details.
